The 14th Dalai Lama Endowment for Tibetan and Buddhist Studies at UCLA

“Give for the sake of giving, without thought of donor, recipient, or gift; for immeasurable is the merit produced by such giving.”
— The Diamond Sutra

In an exceptional gesture of friendship and support, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has approved the creation of a fund in his name to advance the study of Tibetan Buddhism at UCLA. Donations to The 14th Dalai Lama Endowment for Tibetan and Buddhist Studies go directly to activities aimed at spreading knowledge about Tibetan Buddhist traditions and practices. UCLA's Buddhist studies program is the largest in the Western world, with more faculty, graduate students and undergraduate courses in the field than at any other university outside Asia, and the most extensive library collections in Tibetan language materials in the United States.

The 14th Dalai Lama Endowment presents a unique opportunity to raise awareness about centuries of Tibetan Buddhist thought and practice. Your contributions will bring international scholars of Tibetan Buddhism to Los Angeles; fill the academic year with public events, colloquia and symposia related to Tibetan and Buddhist religion and culture; fund new research initiatives; and support graduate student fellowships in Tibetan and Buddhist studies.

As Representative for His Holiness the Dalai Lama in this hemisphere, I gratefully acknowledge UCLA's commitment to developing future leaders in Tibetan and Buddhist studies. With the endorsement of His Holiness, the UCLA Center for Buddhist Studies is moving to establish a permanent curriculum in Tibetan Buddhism within its already extraordinary program.

Therefore, I am pleased to commend for your support The 14th Dalai Lama Endowment for Tibetan and Buddhist Studies at UCLA. Throughout the state of California, and particularly in the region surrounding UCLA, there is a deep affinity for Tibet's culture and a warm spirit of welcome toward its people. The new fund will strengthen that relationship and inspire coming generations of students. We extend our blessing for this effort.

With my best wishes,
